The Italian layout is QWERTY with accented vowels placed on dedicated keys instead of dead keys: è é right of P, ò ç and à ° right of L, ù § beside Enter and ì ^ on the number row. The apostrophe and question mark share the key left of it, and \ | is the top-left key. The number row’s shifted symbols follow the European order (" £ $ % & / ( ) =), and @ # € are reached with AltGr. Physically it is an ISO board.
Type each row, then test the accent keys individually — they are single presses, so each should light up and count one. Hold Shift on the number row and AltGr on ò à è and E to confirm the extra layers. The < > key beside the left Shift and the ù key beside Enter are ISO-only switches, so make sure both respond.
The Italian layout has no ~ or ` key at all; they are only available via Alt codes or by switching to another layout. It is not a keyboard fault, and this tester will show every physical key working. If you need those characters often, a US-International layout alongside the Italian one is the usual fix.
